1989: Foundation of Castle House Press in Llantrisant, Mid Glamorgan, supplying publishing services and specialising in travel content. Major clients: Mitchell Beazley/Simon & Schuster/Prentice Hall Press, De Agostini, Microsoft.

1996: Adastra Publishing, a two-year editorial joint venture with Cirencester-based Dial House Partnership to provide digital content creation services to Microsoft from a new joint office in central Cardiff.

1997: Name changed to Castle House Publishing Service when we inherit full control of the Cardiff office and start to take on web-based assignments. Major clients: localisation specialist Bowne Global Solutions (BGS), online search platform Ask Jeeves.

2000: Name changed to Adastra Publishing (resurrecting the title of the former joint venture), with a new focus on editorial and global project management services for both traditional and web-based publishers. Major clients: BGS, HarperCollins.

2000: Entire operation wholly integrated into BGS. For 15 months Cardiff becomes its inaugural base in the UK.

2001: In a management buy-out, we are reconstituted as AdastraWales.com when the merger of BGS with Lionbridge (both global leaders in localisation services) makes their Cardiff base redundant. Our new mission is to create, adapt and manage content, providing a one-stop production service for clients requiring complex cross-media multi-platform content solutions. Major clients: Lionbridge, content providers Translations.com.

2005: Joint venture known as Adastra Education formed with Cardiff-based video production company CC4 to co-lead a multi-partner 3-year European Social Fund (ESF) project: Web-based Interactive Multimedia.

2009: Following completion of the ESF project in 2008, we buy out CC4’s shares in Adastra Education. Company renamed Adastra Cymru. Moves to Mumbles, Swansea. Subcontracting work for European Leonardo projects now provides most of our income stream.

2010: Start of first European Leonardo project as a full partner. Adastra Consulting launched as a sub-brand.

2012: Now working exclusively as a partner in Leonardo and Grundtvig projects.

2014: Completion of final European projects.

2015 onwards: Adastra Cymru winds down, although the directors remain individually available for freelance assignments. Adastra Consulting continues to trade.
